What you should know before you buy
The most important questions - answered briefly and honestly.
Terms Is the Oslo Card the same as the Oslo Pass?
Yes, both terms refer to the same product. The official name according to VisitOslo is „Oslo Pass“ - in German-speaking countries, „Oslo Card“ has established itself as a common name, analogous to „Lisboa Card“ or „Paris Pass“.
You’ll come across the official name in travel guides and on the app itself („Oslo Pass - Official City Card“). So you've come to the right place.
Cancellation Can I cancel free of charge if my plans change?
Yes, via our partner Tiqets, the Oslo Card can be canceled free of charge up to 24 hours before the selected travel date free of charge. Without giving reasons, with full refund of the purchase price.
You can book now and secure your voucher at your leisure, even if your travel plan is not yet 100 percent complete. When purchasing directly via the official Oslo Pass app, this cancellation option is not available.
Activation How does the Oslo Card work - do I need an app?
The Oslo Card has been fully digital since 2024. There is no longer a physical card - no need to collect it from the Visitor Center.
Procedure after purchase:
- Step 1: You will immediately receive a voucher code by e-mail.
- Step 2: Download the official app „Oslo Pass - Official City Card“ from the App Store or Google Play.
- Step 3: Redeem voucher code in the app.
- Step 4: Activate before first use - the countdown starts from this moment (24, 48 or 72 hours).
Show the QR code in the app at attractions and on public transport. Several passes can be managed on one phone, which is practical for families or travel groups.
Prices Are there reduced prices for children or senior citizens?
Yes, there are three price categories:
- Child (6 to 17 years): separate children's ticket at about half the adult price.
- Senior (aged 67 and over): Senior pass with a significant discount.
- Under 6 years: No pass required - children travel free on local public transport and have free admission to almost all museums.
| Validity | Adults | Child | Senior |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 hours | 52,77 € | 26,38 € | 42,30 € |
| 48 hours | 76,87 € | 38,21 € | 61,41 € |
| 72 hours | 90,52 € | 45,03 € | 72,33 € |
Note: Children's tickets are booked in combination with at least one adult or senior ticket.
Airport Is the trip to Oslo-Gardermoen Airport included?
The Flytoget express train is not included. But: you can still save considerably with the Oslo Card and a cheap additional ticket.
Gardermoen Airport is located in zone 4 and the Oslo Card covers this zone. Only the direct Flytoget express train is excluded from this zone and remains to pay extra.
Saving tip: Use the Vy regional trains instead (not Flytoget). With active Oslo Pass, you only need to buy an additional ticket at the ticket machine („Tilleggsbillett“) for the route outside the standard zones. This saves around 50 percent compared to the full Flytoget ticket.
Suitability Is the Oslo Card worthwhile for my stay?
Rule of thumb: from 2 to 3 major attractions per day plus regular use of local transport, you will usually break even on the first day.
In concrete terms, this means that anyone who has the Munch Museum, Holmenkollen or the Bygdøy museums (Fram, Kon-Tiki, Folklore) on your itinerary will benefit immediately. Also combination of Akershus Fortress, the National Museum and public transport use quickly pays for the 24-hour ticket.
The card is less suitable if you are just strolling through the city, only visit one or two attractions or spend the majority of your time outside the city limits.
